Step 1 Revision
Ask several Ss to read their letters to the principal.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Do you think it difficult to learn English? Which part is the most difficult? Reading, grammar or vocabulary?
2. Maybe many students think it difficult to remember the new words. T: Yes, you are right. Vocabulary is the most difficult .But today I’ll teach you a good way to remember new words .It’ a secret .Don’t tell others.
3. T takes out a picture . Look! What’s in the picture? There is a tree. Great! But it’s a wonderful tree .It’s a vocabulary tree .A vocabulary tree helps you remember new words .Do you want to know how to make a vocabulary tree ? OK, I’ll show you how to make one in class .Follow me!
Step3 Activity
1. Ask each student to take out some colour pencils and a piece of paper.
2 T : First ,draw a big tree with some leaves .On its branches ,we write
 
some categories , such as people ,food ,drink ,etc .Draw a picture for a new word on each leaf .Write down the new words below the pictures .Put the words into different categories .Now we have a beautiful vocabulary tree .
3. Tell Ss that Millie is making a vocabulary tree .She needs help. Help her complete it .Encourage Ss to make more vocabulary trees.
Step 4 Discussion
Tell Ss that making a vocabulary tree is only one of the ways to remember the words. Get Ss to discuss the other ways of learning English well in groups .T encourage them to use these ways in later studying.
Step 5 Homework
!.Try to categorize some words they have learnt .e.g. stationery, sports, clothes etc.
